Let’s talk about desire—
We don’t have time.
There’s not room enough
in this narrow frame
to trace its limits,
to discover its name.
We’re prisoners,
captives,
fenced in by rhyme.
—That is your condition
but not mine.
There’s freedom here—
I see your thought, I blame
this shape. It fools you.
The rules of the game
limit things—
I’ll fix desire in six lines.
—Try, he said—
My hero wife
stands below
a full moon,
weary eyes,
her limbs may sag,
but she stands, long,
lovely,
and always young.
She’s a melody
that’s just begun
to sing in my flesh.
Desire never flags:
Her face,
her voice,
her touch.
Her beauty flows.

Necessary struggle to keep hoping. Beautiful juxtaposition between freedom and desire. Great poem to start my day.
